A Slight Delay, But Our Commitment to TRUE MEN Remains Strong

Sometimes, life throws unexpected challenges our way, and as men, we face them head-on. That’s exactly what my family has been doing these past few weeks, and I want to take a moment to explain why TRUE MEN may have a slight delay in launching—but also why we are more committed than ever.

It Started with a Routine EKG

Every year, Florida Christian School partners with Nicklaus Children's Hospital to offer free EKG screenings for students. It’s an amazing program that helps detect heart conditions in kids who might otherwise never know they had an issue.

At the beginning of 2024, both Javi (9th grade) and Andy (6th grade) had their EKGs done. Everything seemed routine—until the phone rang. Almost immediately, we were contacted by the hospital and told Andy needed to come in for a follow-up. That call came with chilling words:

"Until we meet, please have him refrain from all sports activities."

As parents, hearing something like that stops you in your tracks.

The Diagnosis: WPW

At the follow-up visit, we were told that Andy had a heart condition called Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) Syndrome (Learn More About WPW Here). WPW is a rare heart defect that can cause dangerously fast heart rhythms and, if left untreated, could lead to serious complications.

The solution? A procedure (I call it a surgery) to correct the condition.

6.5 Hours of Pure Anxiety

Andy was scheduled for the procedure almost immediately. We were told it would take 2 to 3 hours. Instead, it lasted 6.5 hours.

That’s six and a half hours of Susy (my wife) and I on edge, pacing hospital floors, praying, and waiting for updates.

Halfway through, we learned why it was taking so long. While in surgery, our doctor, Dr. Sherrie Baysa (who is now one of my favorite superheroes), discovered that Andy also had SVT (Supraventricular Tachycardia). Instead of making him go through a second surgery later, she took care of it right then and there.

She went above and beyond, and for that, we are forever grateful.

Fast Forward to This Year… Another EKG

This year, my wife signed both boys up again for the free EKG.

Andy, being Andy, asked, "Why do I have to do it again if I’m already fixed?"

"Because we said so, that’s why. Just do it!"

Turns out, WPW is rare—but what’s even more rare is needing to have the procedure done twice. Andy will be only the third kid in 20 years that Dr. Baysa has had to operate on a second time.

So here we are, preparing for another procedure, and as much as I’d love to push forward with TRUE MEN as planned, I may need to delay the launch by a few weeks. Right now, we’re waiting on a confirmed surgery date, and once we have it, I’ll know more.

TRUE MEN Will Happen—Just Stay Tuned

Life has thrown us a curveball, but our mission with TRUE MEN remains unchanged. We are still building this brotherhood, and I am beyond excited for what’s ahead.

I just ask for a little patience, a little understanding, and a lot of prayers.

I’ll keep everyone updated, and as soon as we have a firm launch date, we’ll be rolling full speed ahead.

Thank you all for your support—I can’t wait to get this started!
